18/11/2008

Dusseldorf, 18th November 2008   Added value for patients - Hall 15, Booth 59: OKI Printing Solutions introduces electronic healthcare information system in partnership with the Protonia IT Foundation

OKI Printing Solutions will be introducing its newly expanded healthcare portfolio at MEDICA 2008 in Düsseldorf from 19 to 22 November. The spotlight will be on OKI's user-friendly kiosk terminal which offers improved communications between clinics, medical practices, pharmacies and their patients.

MEDICA is the world's largest fair for medical technology. More than 4,200 exhibitors from 65 nations will present their latest healthcare products and researchers will report on innovations and future trends in health.

Together with its business partners, OKI offers a wide range of products and services custom-tailored to the needs of the healthcare industry, such as digitalization of handwritten patient-care records, detailed printouts of x-rays, or an innovation for the ambulant radiation treatment of cancer. In addition, OKI offers a comprehensive range of solutions for high definition color printing as well as for output management tailored to the needs of clinics.

"Besides our tried and tested printing solutions for the healthcare industry, visitor to this year's OKI Printing Solutions booth can expect to discover a new dimension in effective patient communication and patient retention", explains Bernd Quenzer, Managing Director of OKI Printing Solutions Germany and Regional Vice President for the Central Region. "Key to the market launch of the kiosk terminal is our strategic partnership with the Protonia IT Foundation, a collaboration which has already chalked up its first success in the form of the eGis electronic healthcare information system."

Kiosk terminals - added value for patients and medical professionals

Realized in partnership with the Protonia IT Foundation and FIRMENNET Thiel GmbH, a systems/network provider, eGis is a comprehensive solution based on an exceptionally user-friendly kiosk concept developed by OKI. This electronic healthcare information system, the first practical application of the kiosk terminal, allows doctors, hospitals and other caregivers to provide their patients with easy access to all types of useful information regarding health and medicine, while at the same time creating an interactive communication channel. For example, patients can use the kiosk terminal to research the contra-indications and side effects of specific medicines, to find out new medical products and services available on the market, or to set up a medical appointment. Moreover, the patient can use an electronic health ID card (eGK) to easily input a wide range of personal medical data into the system.

Effective printing solutions, from prescriptions to x-rays

In addition to its new Kiosk terminals, OKI will also be presenting comprehensive printing/document-management applications that are highly useful for pharmacies, doctors' offices and hospitals. These include multifunctional "troubleshooting" solutions that can handle many of the daily tasks, involving printing, scanning, copying and faxing. They also include powerful, yet compact and affordable, mono/color printers* for the professional-quality printout (from DIN A6 to A3) of prescriptions, medical files, receipts and invoices which use OKI's unique LED printing technology to produce detailed x-rays copies quickly and cost-effectively.
