Innovation through the ages
Kibataro Oki was far ahead of his time when in 1881, convinced that the nation was about to enter the age of communications, he founded Meikosha Ltd, the origins of today's Oki Electric and developed the first Japanese telephone.
PIONEERING TECHNOLOGY THROUGHOUT HISTORY
His progressive spirit has lived on through Oki Electric's contributions to the development of information and communications industries. Oki Electric is one of the world's largest manufacturers of ATMs and LEDs (Light Emitting Diode), and pioneers leading edge technologies such as iris recognition.
GROUNDBREAKING COMMUNICATIONS
In addition to pioneering activity within telecommunications, Oki Electric quickly grew and began innovating in others areas of communication. The post-Second World War period saw the development of teletypewriters, electronic computers and ATM machines. Faxes and connectivity advances followed later in the century before printing came to the fore, initially in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and then later with the introduction of our proprietary LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology based print engines.
